Full time mothers work hard every day of the year. Mother's Day is an excellent time to go way out of the way to make stay-at-home moms feel special and loved.

The life of a stay-at-home mother is anything but glamorous. Her day is often filled with mundane duties that may go unnoticed. Though she works hard every day of the year, she may have nothing tangible to show for all of her efforts. It's not uncommon for stay-at-home moms to sacrifice their own needs in order to take care of the needs of their families.

Mother's Day, and other special occasions such as Valentine's Day, wedding anniversaries, and birthdays are all great opportunities to turn the tables and give a mother a day filled with pampering and extravagance.

Here are some ways to make this Mother's Day one that will not soon be forgotten by a special stay-at-home mom.

Breakfast in Bed for Mom

Start off Mother's Day by serving Mom a delicious breakfast in bed. The good news is, it's not essential for a husband or children to be excellent cooks in order to pull off serving a nice breakfast in bed. Although fancy food is nice, presentation is more important than the food itself. Therefore, make a point of getting out nice dishes and silverware, pretty napkins, and put a rose bud or other flower in a small vase.

A few simple breakfast in bed options include scrambled eggs, toast or bagels, yogurt and fresh fruit. If cooking is completely out of the question, pick up a specialty coffee drink and a pastry. Served on pretty dishes with a cloth napkin make even the most simple offering something special.

Set the Mood on Mother's Day

In the same way that nice dishes and pretty napkins are an important aspect of serving breakfast in bed on Mother's Day, other special touches spread throughout the day create a relaxed and luxurious mood. Appeal to the senses by lighting candles or scented oils, playing soft and relaxing music or if preferred, nature sound recordings, and splurge on as many fresh flowers as the budget permits.

If a room in the house has gotten a bit messy or hasn't been deeply cleaned in awhile, taking the time to tidy up and clean can also create a more pleasant atmosphere in the home.

Delight Mom With a Day Spa at Home

A day spa gift certificate makes an excellent Mother's Day gift, but if a budget is limited, with a little thought and preparation, it's possible to give a mother a spa day at home.

A spa day can include a luxurious candle lit bubble bath, a facial and a massage. Simply pick up some candles, bubble bath, a facial kit from the local drugstore, and some massage lotion or oil. Select lotions, candles, and other items in fragrances that you know are sure to please. It's often possible to purchase a spa gift set with several items that work together well. Give the gift set to the mother right after breakfast in bed on Mother's day with a card to let her know that the pampering is part of the gift.

Involve Children in Mother's Day Preparation as Appropriate

On Mother's Day more than perhaps any other day, children should be involved in making the day special for Mom. Younger children can help serve breakfast in bed and perhaps enjoy a bit of snuggle time with mom. At other times such as when the mother takes a bubble bath, allowing the mom to enjoy some quiet solitude is a very precious gift.

Moms work hard throughout the year and deserve to be pampered on Mother's Day. Make Mother's Day special by serving breakfast in bed, setting a relaxed and luxurious mood, and pulling together the needed items and time for an enjoyable spa day at home. Children can and should be involved in the process, but some time during the day without some of the demands of mothering is sure to make any stay-at-home mom feel loved and pampered.

Very good article. I am going to send this to my husband anonymously. I am a working stay at home mom and I think I really deserve it.
